Firefox 7 kills 'window.resizeTo()'

Among my most useful bookmarklets are those I use to resize my main browser window. With Firefox 7, they no longer work. Some config changes made them work again, but only temporarily. This does not necessarily benefit the user. In some cases, it interrupts one's workflow.

Others have noticed the problem as well:

I don't like it when a site attempts to resize my window and never revisit such sites. But as a user, I want the freedom to quickly resize my own window to various specific sizes as needed and this change in Firefox 7 stops me from doing so – not a good decision in my opinion.

a sensible boilerplate approach

320 and up

Many CSS Media Queries boilerplates start with a desktop-specific stylesheet, then add queries and styles for progressively smaller viewports. This means that even the small browsers load desktop layout styles and potentially large assets, even when these are set to display:none;.

'320 and Up' starts with a tiny screen stylesheet that contains only reset, colour and typography styles. Media Queries then load assets and layout styles progressively and only as they're needed. Think of this as responsible responsive design.

caution: plugin vulnerability

When PDFs Attack!
We have received reports of a significant problem relating to Adobe Acrobat files and Cross Site Scripting (XSS). A weakness was discovered in the way that the Adobe Reader browser plugin can be made to execute JavaScript code on the client side...

You can avoid this problem by implementing a work around in your browser so that it does not use the Acrobat Reader plugin.
See article for details.

Update (1/5/07): A supposedly more secure, new version of Adobe Reader is available. Beware of optional additional software installation, which is checked by default. [BBC]
